The spark: a personal journey with invisible illness
Illuminate Wear was born from a very personal place. Living with epilepsy and other invisible illnesses, I've experienced firsthand the challenges and indignities that can arise during medical emergencies. I've had paramedics cut through my clothing to administer life-saving medication, a necessary action but one that highlighted a significant gap in conventional clothing design.
These moments made me question why everyday apparel isn't designed with discreet, quick-access points for medical professionals. Why should individuals lose their clothing in a crisis? Why can't clothing be both functional and considerate of those with chronic illnesses, medical devices, or disabilities? Why aren't our voices being heard?
